Dear partner,

From the week of 5 October 2026, ECT introduces a new Truck Capacity Management System (TCMS) at its Delta and Euromax terminals in the Port of Rotterdam.

What's changing
Trucks will only be allowed in on a pre-booked time slot, instead of the flexible entry used today. Every visit needs a confirmed expected arrival time. If the slot we want is full, ECT automatically assigns the truck to the next available slot, which can mean extra waiting time.

What this means for you
A missed or full slot isn't held for us, it's pushed later. That has a different impact depending on your shipment:

  • For export: please share your booking reference, VGM, export customs declaration and loading instructions as soon as you have them available, so we can secure a slot with enough time to spare. Late information can push a container past the vessel's cut-off.

  • For import: please share any documents or instructions we still need from you as early as possible, so we can book and confirm a pickup slot in time. Late clearance or a missing document can mean your container sits at the terminal longer than planned, with a higher risk of extra storage or demurrage days.

⚠️ If a planned visit is cancelled or changed too late, ECT charges a €100 no-show fee, after an initial grace period.

A note on cost
Waiting time is charged per hour, for a truck standing at the gate and for a container waiting to be loaded, unloaded or picked up. If a delay is caused by information or documents that reached us too late to secure a slot on time, the resulting charges fall to your account, in line with normal practice. We'll always flag this to you as soon as we see a shipment heading that way, so it's never a surprise on the invoice. The earlier we have everything, the smaller this risk.

Why we're taking this seriously
Antwerp introduced a similar appointment system for truck slots a while ago. The congestion there hasn't eased since, if anything it has stayed persistently difficult. We're planning ahead of that pattern, rather than waiting to see if ECT settles down on its own.

What we're doing

We're moving our internal cut-off times earlier, monitoring free time against slot availability, and will flag any shipment at risk immediately. We'll share ECT's final procedures and our revised cut-offs as soon as they're confirmed. Read more here.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss priorities with us, please feel free to contact your Shypple contact person. We are happy to think along with you.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

Beste partner,

We denken graag mee.

Alvast bedankt voor uw begrip en medewerking.

Kind regards,
